According to a report by The Zebra, auto insurance rates are at their highest level with a national average premium of $1,427. Since 2011, some states’ rates have increased by more than 60% while other states’ rates have decreased by as much as 20 percent.

According to The Zebra report, North Carolina boasts the lowest auto insurance rates in the country with an average annual premium of $865. North Carolina’s low auto insurance rates are in large part credited to the state’s competitive, low cost regulatory rate making system.
